The recipe reviewed below appears on Page 4 of today’s Dash, a monthly food magazine inserted in The Journal Gazette.

Cranberry-Nut Loaf

Preparation: 15 minutes

Cook time: 45 minutes

What we thought: This quick bread really is a quick bread. It came together in no time, and I had a warm slice dripping with melted butter within an hour. The bread is good but the flavor is a bit flat. The addition of orange zest or substituting orange juice for the milk could have given it a bit of depth. Even a bit of cinnamon would have been nice.

Oops: In a rush at the pharmacy (of all places), I grabbed cranberry jelly instead of the cranberry sauce. It worked out well enough, though I wonder if it contributed to the taste.

Seasonal foods: Instead of making two loaves, I made one regular-size loaf and two smaller ones. I froze the mini loaves to put into holiday gift baskets come December.
