ID released in train fatality

A teen was the person reportedly killed by a train early Tuesday in Kosciusko County.

Nicole Skaggs, 15, of Cromwell, a freshman at Wawasee High School in Syracuse, was identified as the victim by the Kosciusko County coroner’s office. She was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt-force trauma according to Deputy Coroner Mike Wilson of the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

Skaggs was reportedly walking across the CSX railroad crossing on County Road 1000 North, just south of County Road 1250, before being struck by a westbound CSX train at 2:40 a.m.

The coroner's office and the county sheriff's department are still investigating the fatality.
