The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and coroner’s office were investigating the death of a female victim along the CSX railroad tracks on the east side of Lake Wawasee early Tuesday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with emergency personnel from Syracuse, responded at 2:40 a.m. after receiving information that a CSX train had struck a pedestrian. Mike Wilson of the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office pronounced the individual dead at the scene from blunt-force trauma.

Sheriff’s and coroner’s officials have not identified the victim and are still investigating the case.

More information will be released as it is made available from the Kosciusko coroner’s office.

Check back for updates.
