The Los Angeles Lakers hired Mike D'Antoni over legendary coach Phil Jackson to fill their vacant head-coaching spot. The Lakers wouldn't agree to Jackson's demands to skip road games, have a personal yoga coach and take mandatory naps during the third quarter of home games.

I'm joking. Jackson didn't make any demands other than to have owner's son Jim Buss switch from executive vice president to the guy who gets Jackson's tea before shoot-arounds.

Ultimately, the Lakers felt D'Antoni was a better fit since he wouldn't be tied down by the weight of all those championship rings.

Someone stop those 'heated exchanges'

The Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins has been suspended for two games by the NBA for a heated exchange with San Antonio broadcaster Sean Elliott.

This punishment seems excessive. Couldn't they have just put Cousins into a media timeout?

Old habits die hard

Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale has taken a leave of absence to deal with a family matter. Assistant coach Kelvin Sampson takes over in his absence. Out of habit, the NCAA infractions committee flew to Houston.

Cleaning up on the 'award'

For the second consecutive year, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was voted the NFL's dirtiest player in a poll of league players. It's not as easy a mantle to maintain as you might think. Many quarterbacks go out of their way not to have their faces smashed into the ground when they see Suh coming.

Twitter de France

Lance Armstrong tweeted a photo of himself reclining in front of his seven framed yellow jerseys from Tour de France titles. Some observers speculated that the jerseys appeared to have been digitally enhanced from mediums to larges.

Temper, temper

Crew members of Jeff Gordon's and Clint Bowyer's teams were involved in a fistfight that had to be broken up by police after Gordon wrecked Bowyer at Phoenix International Raceway.

NASCAR officials were so outraged, they hoped ESPN and other outlets continue to show it as many times as possible before the season finale.

If it doesn't walk like a (Oregon) Duck

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly cast the only No.1 vote for the Fighting Irish in this week's coaches poll. It's this kind of unbiased opinion that makes the coaches poll such as reliable barometer.
