FORT WAYNE — A Fort Wayne school bus driver has been suspended without pay after he allegedly struck a 5-year-old boy.
The bus driver dropped off the boy at home Monday and told the boy’s father that the boy had put his feet in the aisle and was kicking, a police report stated.
The driver stopped the bus to talk to the boy about his behavior. During that conversation, the driver “may have hit” the boy, the driver told the father.
Surveillance video from the bus showed that the driver “made contact” with the boy, according the report.
The report said police were shown a photograph taken Monday of an injury to the boy’s right cheek.
So far, the driver has not been charged.
Melanie Hall, public affairs director for Fort Wayne Community Schools, said the driver has been suspended without pay while the district investigates the allegation. “We take this very seriously,” she said.
