If $500,000 of the city’s Legacy Fund is going to be spent on a study of using the rivers, then it should consider the following idea: relocation of the Hosey Dam and construction of Lake Little Turtle to the south of Fort Wayne with a high water overflow wetland corridor and bike trail along the transformed Trier Ditch to connect the southeast with the rest of the city.
The benefits include flood control, recreation, opportunity for economic development, electric power from the new dam and considerable net environmental improvements.
The study needs to view the rivers separately from the current putrid reservoir downtown that will still be filthy after the sewer separation due to the state of the drainage area coming in. Downtown will be vastly improved with natural rivers rather than an agricultural catch basin.
Lake Little Turtle would be built with abundant wetlands to clean the agricultural and other runoff coming to Fort Wayne, so the downtown rivers will once again be the sparkle in the eyes of Little Turtle’s people, our children.
Kevin Leininger recently wrote a column on the Moss traffic stop where Councilman Moss was allowed to leave without taking a breathalyzer test. Leininger states that Moss is a friend but that has nothing to do with his opinion. How can he be objective? He can’t be. Leininger’s premise is that the investigation took far too long, but this is disguised as a defense for Moss. It took him nearly 1,000 words to justify his stance on this issue.
The questions remain, why Moss was allowed to call anyone, let alone Sheriff Ken Fries. That alone is cause for suspicion. If Moss was not calling Sheriff Fries for a favor, why in the world would he be calling him? It is my understanding that a driver pulled over for suspicion of drinking and driving must submit to a breathalyzer test. If they refuse to do so, they are taken into custody.
Three police officers were on the scene who are all sticking to the same story as is Sheriff Fries. Ever heard of code blue? This is where police officers cover each other’s you know what for wrongdoing. Basically our law enforcement allowed Moss to go free when any average citizen would have been detained. The fact that the investigation into ethics charges took so long shows that many other people were covering for Mr. Moss as well. All of these people are supported with taxpayer dollars. I strongly encourage voters to vote against Fries and Moss and replace the City Council members during their next election cycle since they are unable to delegate their duties and responsibilities as required.
