Two east-side schools reportedly locked their doors for about 30 minutes Tuesday morning after a robbery at a Georgetown bank.

Jeff Kowatch, safety director with Blackhawk Christian schools, said Fort Wayne Police advised the schools at about 10:30 a.m. that a suspect was at large after the robbery of Chase Bank, 6704 E. State Blvd.

According to Fort Wayne Police spokeswoman Officer Raquel Foster, witnesses said a man came into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled north on foot toward a nearby apartment complex, Foster said in a statement.

Police were still looking for the suspect as of 12 p.m. The man – who was photographed by a surveillance camera – was last seen wearing a black baseball cap and hooded jacket.

Fort Wayne Community Schools spokeswoman Krista Stockman said one of the district's schools, Haley Elementary, did not go into an official lockdown but did not allow anyone to go in our out of the school.

Kowatch said Blackhawk lifted the lockdown at about 11 a.m. after police informed the school that it was safe to do so.

The suspect did not appear to have a weapon, and no one was injured in the robbery, Foster said in the statement. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP (436-7867).

The robbery remains under investigation by the Northeast Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force.
