Shooting in street puts 2 in hospital

Man, woman victims; relationship unknown

A shooting on the southeast side Monday afternoon left a 24-year-old woman in critical condition and a 19-year-old man in fair condition, Fort Wayne police said.

Officers were dispatched to the corner of Boltz and Warsaw streets shortly before 3:30 p.m., and they found the wounded pair in the street just west of the intersection, said officer Raquel Foster, police spokeswoman.

Foster said the woman was shot multiple times, and the man received at least two gunshot wounds.

The relationship between them, if any, was not clear, she said.

Both were taken to a hospital, and detectives planned to interview them, Foster said. Their identities were not released.

On Monday night, the events leading up to the shooting and the motive remained unknown.

“Right now, we just have more questions, than we have answers,” Foster said.

At the same intersection in August, a 13-year-old riding his bicycle was shot in the hip. He was critically injured but survived the shooting. No arrests have been made in that case.

Investigators had no information about who pulled the trigger in Monday’s shooting. Police believe people in the neighborhood may have seen something, and they would like them to come forward, Foster said.

“We’re hopeful that they’ll do that soon,” she said.

Anyone with a tip about the shooting is asked to call police at 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
