A fight in an apartment building east of downtown escalated to a shooting that left a man with a serious leg wound Saturday afternoon, police said.

About 3:35 p.m., a report of a shooting sent police to 901 Francis St., a two-story building that?s part of East Central Towers & Gardens between Wayne Street and Washington Boulevard.

On the second floor, officers found a man shot in the leg. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, said officer Chris Felton, a police spokesman. On Sunday police identified the victim as Kyle Bolton, 21, of Fort Wayne. He was in fair condition Sunday.

Police received reports that a second man may have been shot, but investigators had not confirmed that, Felton said.

At the scene, officers handcuffed and detained several people, putting some in squad cars and questioning them. Police had made no arrests as of Saturday evening.

"At this time, they're still trying to develop suspects and leads," Felton said. "They're interviewing all the occupants of the apartment complex, anybody that might have been out and about, that saw anything."

Felton said a fight between the victim and another man on the second floor led to the victim being shot.

He said it was too soon to pin down a motive in the case.
