Power fully restored after outage

MORE ARTICLES

The lights are back on for thousands in Fort Wayne who lost power Friday after a winter storm moved through the region.

Strong winds Friday morning knocked out electricity to about 1,500 customers in pockets around the Fort Wayne area, and that afternoon, a circuit breaker failure prompted 17,000 customers to lose power north of State Boulevard and east of Coliseum Boulevard, according to Indiana Michigan Power.

By Saturday morning, power had been restored to those customers, the utility said.

The outage blacked out traffic signals at several intersections, but they were working again Saturday, an emergency dispatcher said.

About 4,100 customers in southwestern Michigan and about 700 customers in northwestern Indiana remained in the dark Saturday afternoon, the utility said. Those customers were expected to have power back no later than today.
