Ohio passenger, 85, dies from rural crash injuries

An 85-year-old Ohio man has died from injuries suffered when the vehicle he was riding in went off the road in east Allen County last week.

James M. Clark of Paulding died Sunday at Parkview Regional Medical Center, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Clark suffered blunt-force trauma in the crash. His death is the county’s 36th traffic fatality this year, the coroner’s office said.

Clark was wearing a seat belt in the back seat of a vehicle when it went off Dawkins Road at Sampson Road and into a ditch on Friday, the coroner’s office said. The crash is still under investigation.

Fire causes $20,000 damage to home

Fire tore through a two-story home just east of Fremont on Wednesday, causing $20,000 damage, the town’s fire department said.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 5800 block of East 540 North at 1:53 p.m. They were met by heavy smoke coming from the second floor, the fire department said.

Inside, firefighters found that flames had spread from the first floor through the walls and into the second floor and attic. Crews were able to get inside and bring the fire under control in about a half-hour, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported.
