Another year is about to come to a close.
Before the clock strikes midnight and 2013 makes its debut, enjoy the last day of 2012 with these area events. Reflection on the past year and its ups and downs is optional.
•The Philmore on Broadway, 2441 Broadway, will ring in the new year with music, dancing, food and champagne. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and music begins at 9 p.m. with the band Influx. Club Soda will provide the menu, and there will be a champagne toast at midnight. Admission is $25 in advance and $27 the day of the show. Call 745-1000.
•There’s just something cool about a masquerade ball. The Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana will host its annual dance from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday at Grand Wayne Center, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd. Masquerade masks are required, but black tie is optional. Tickets, from $45 to $65, are available at http://ylni.org/ball.
•The Renaissance Ballroom in Ossian will have a New Year’s Eve dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Monday. Tickets for the dance are $15. For information, call 260-622-6644.
•The band Down Stroke will perform at Piere’s Entertainment Center’s New Year’s Eve bash, which includes a champagne toast at midnight, breakfast buffet and party favors. Tickets are $15 and doors open at 9 p.m. Piere’s is located at 5629 St. Joe Road.
•Enjoy some country music with Diamond Rio’s New Year’s Eve concert at 7 p.m. Monday at Wagon Wheel Theatre in Warsaw. For tickets, call 574-267-8041.
•J.K. O’Donnell’s, 121 W. Wayne St., will celebrate New Year’s Eve twice – once at 7 p.m. for the Irish new year and again at midnight for the American new year. We suggest you ring in both while listening to the musical stylings of the band Rhapsody in Wax, which performs Depression Era jazz and Irish standards. The event is 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with a dinner break at 7:30 p.m. A champagne toast and party favors come with each celebration.
•It may be a little late for the kids to stay up until midnight New Year’s Eve, but that doesn’t mean they can’t ring in the new year a different way. Science Central will have its “Countdown to Noon” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. The event will include activities, demonstrations, crafts and then a countdown to the noon hour, followed by a balloon drop. Admission is $8 a person, ages 3 to adult. Science Central, 1950 N. Clinton St., will be open until 5 p.m.
•The Hamilton Lions will have its Jack D. Gibson Memorial Scholarship Polar Bear Dip at 2 p.m. Monday at the public beach on Hamilton Lake. Donations will be accepted for the group’s scholarship fund. People wishing to participate should register at the Hamilton Real Estate Office.
•Enjoy a night of hockey as the Komets take to the ice against the Toledo Walleyes beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave. Tickets, at $25 to $12 adults, $20 to $10 seniors and students, $15 to $7 ages 11 and younger, are available by calling 1-800-745-3000.
