6 holdups this week hit apartments

Armed robbers strike at 4 complexes in city

FORT WAYNE — Fort Wayne police are warning residents to be on the lookout for men who might be responsible for up to six armed robberies this week at local apartment complexes.

Robbers have held up residents at Canterbury Green, Colony Bay Apartments, Gardenview Apartments and Autumn Creek Apartments on the city’s north, northeast, west and southwest sides, police said.

Robbers struck in Autumn Creek Apartments and Gardenview Apartments twice, according to reports.

In all but one of the robberies, police said, two men approached residents near their apartments and stole purses, wallets, cash, credit cards, iPhones, laptop computers and household items.

In two cases, according to police, men forced residents into their apartments at gunpoint and searched their homes before stealing several items.

The most recent robberies were Tuesday night at Gardenview Apartments on North Clinton Street. The first robbery was reported at 9:18 p.m., and the other at 9:34 p.m.

No injuries were reported in any of the robberies, police said.

It’s unclear whether the same men committed all the robberies.

Police encourage residents to park in well-lit areas, be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious people, vehicles or activity.

The recent robberies:

•10:58 p.m. Monday – Canterbury Apartments, 5127 Stonehedge Blvd. Two armed men robbed a man and woman at the entrance of an apartment.

•Midnight Monday – Autumn Creek Apartments, 2026 Ardmore Ave. Two men, one armed with a handgun, forced a woman into her apartment and stole a computer and wallet containing credit cards and cash.

•8:24 p.m. Tuesday – Colony Bay Apartments, 6416 Covington Road. Two men robbed a woman while she was checking her mail.

•9:05 p.m. Tuesday – Autumn Creek Apartments, 2122 Ardmore Ave. Two men forced a man into his apartment at gunpoint and stole household items.

•9:18 p.m. Tuesday – Gardenview Apartments, 5415 N. Clinton St. Two men robbed a man near his vehicle in the parking lot.

•9:34 p.m. Tuesday – Gardenview Apartments, 5415 N. Clinton St. A man robbed a woman in the parking lot.

This isn’t the first time that city apartments have been targeted by armed robbers.

In April, Borislav Cuckovic was sentenced to 40 years in prison on five counts of armed robbery, to which he pleaded guilty.

Prosecutors charged Cuckovic in four separate cases in September 2011 after a string of robberies at apartment complexes on the city’s north side.

In August 2011, Kentron Ganaway was sentenced to 26 years in prison after admitting to a string of armed robberies at local apartment complexes.
