A blaze in the attic of the South Bridge Apartments leasing office caused heavy damage Wednesday morning.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called at 9:31 a.m. to the one-story office, 8310 Bridgeway Blvd., and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof, according to a Fort Wayne Fire Department news release. Crews were able to

contain the fire to the attic area and control the blaze in 22 minutes.

The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental-electrical, according to FWFD spokeswoman Stacey Fleming. Eight employees were inside the building but got out safely after seeing and smelling smoke, according to Fleming.
