Register by Feb. 1 for Master Naturalist training


Openings are still available for those interested for the 2013 Indiana Master Naturalist Program. The deadline to sign up is Feb. 1.

This is an opportunity for adults age 18 and older to learn about Indiana's plants, water, soils and wildlife as well as to offer volunteer service in the community.

To become a certified Indiana Master Naturalist, participants must:

•Pay the $80 course registration fee

•Attend an orientation session 6-9:30 p.m. Feb. 12

•Attend a minimum of eight of the nine class sessions 6-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays or 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays Feb. 26-May 14.

•Complete 33 volunteer hours

•Help the community become more educated about nature

•Help promote, plan and maintain and install natural areas

The Allen County Parks Department, and the Fox Island Alliance will be hosts for the training.

The class is limited to 30 people.
