Kevin LaMaster, an eighth-grader at Saint Jude Catholic School in Fort Wayne, scored in the top 1 percent in the nation among students taking the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 8 test for middle school students.

LaMaster was among 53 students who took the test Nov. 13 at the University of Saint Francis, the university said in a news release.

George Sun and Kolin Davis, who are in Grade 8 at Woodside Middle School, scored in the top 5 percent of middle school students taking the test nationally, the news release said.

Chris Howard, a Woodside seventh-grader, earned the top seventh-grade score locally, and sixth-grader Krystka Bugajski of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School earned the top score locally for grades 5 and 6.

The students received awards for their test results during a ceremony Jan. 17 in Gunderson Auditorium at Saint Francis' Achatz Hall of Science.

LaMaster earned a Distinguished Honor Roll Certificate, gold Certificate for Outstanding Achievement and an AMC 8 winner pin.

Sun and Davis received AMC 8 Honor Roll Certificates and silver and bronze Certificates for Outstanding Achievement, respectively. Howard and Bugajski received gold Certificates for Outstanding Achievement.
