Super Bowl XLVII will feature the Baltimore Ravens against the San Francisco 49ers at the Mercades-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
To celebrate our nation's most watched sporting event, the U.S. Census Bureau collected some facts and statistics about New Orleans and the hometowns of the Ravens and 49ers:
*The host city is 51st on the list of most populated cities in the country. It's estimated population was 360,740 as of July 1, 2011.
* 22.7 minutes is the average commute to work (as long as you stay off Bourbon Street). Nearly 70 percent of people drive alone; 9.7 percent carpool and 7.8 percent use public transportation.
*8.7 percent of residents age 5 and older speak a language other than English at home.
The home of the 49ers is is the 14th most populated city in the country, with a population estimated at 812,826 on July 1, 2011.
*29.6 minutes is the average commute to work. Slightly more than 37 percent of commuters drive alone, 7.3 percent carpool and 31.6 percent use public transportation.
*46 percent of residents age 5 and older speak a second language at home.
The home of the Ravens is the 24th most populated city in America, with an estimated population of 619,493 on July 1, 2011.
*29.6 minutes is the average time it takes commuters to get to work. Slightly more than 60 percent drive alone, while about 10 percent carpool and 17.5 percent use public transportation.
*8.1 percent of residents ages 5 and older speak a language other than English at home.
A Super Bowl Party is not limited to only the host city, however. So area residents can go out, order a pizza and some wings -- and throw on a couple of strands of Mardi Gras beads while you're at it, too.
