A woman who fled a crash at a downtown intersection while drunk was ordered by an Allen Superior Court judge to serve eight years in prison Friday.

Lynda Harris-Martinez, 24, pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement to two felony and several misdemeanor charges late last year.

According to prosecutors, Harris-Martinez ran a red light while driving her car south on Fairfield Avenue in July and struck a minivan taxicab heading west on Main Street. She then fled the scene, was later caught and found to be intoxicated.

One woman in the minivan suffered a severe brain injury and skull fracture as a result of the crash, according to court documents. Two others inside were also hurt.

Ultimately, Harris-Martinez admitted guilt to one felony count of failure to stop after an accident resulting in serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while intoxicated, one felony count of causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while intoxicated and four misdemeanor counts of failure to stop after an accident resulting in injury.

Judge Wendy Davis sentenced Harris-Martinez to 16 years in prison on one of the felony counts but suspended eight of those years, according to court records.

She also sentenced Harris-Martinez to three years in prison on another felony count and one year each for the misdemeanor counts, but ordered those to be served at the same time as the eight-year term. Davis also ordered Harris-Martinez to pay $5,764 in restitution.
