When a 300-pound man dressed in black appeared in a church parking lot Friday afternoon and began swinging a sword and an axe and yelling, neighbors called Fort Wayne Police to investigate.

What an officer found when he arrived was the man sitting in the snow in the lot of Forest Park United Methodist Church, 2100 Kentucky Ave. The investigating officer reported that the man appeared “unconcerned” about the police officer's arrival. The officer saw what appeared to be replicas of a medieval axe and a sword in a scabbard near the man and asked him if he could put the weapons on the hood of the officer's patrol car while they talked. The man seemed puzzled, but permitted the officer to move the weapons to his patrol car about 20 feet away.

The 18-year-old said he was just practicing with the weapons, which he said he often does in the church parking lot, and waiting on friends to show up for a snowball fight.

The officer explained that people who live nearby were concerned about his “practicing.”

“I advised (the man) in the future he should think about confining his activities to his own backyard that, from my perspective, seemed large enough to contain his sword-and-axe practice,” the officer wrote in his report.
