Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay called wide receiver Austin Collie a “warrior” as the team confirmed Saturday it will not sign him to a new contract.

Collie played four seasons with the Colts, having a tremendous rookie year. But he was plagued with injuries, including some frightening concussions. He caught 173 passes for 1,845 yards and 16 touchdowns in 42 games with the Colts. He was named to two all-rookie teams in 2009 and led rookies with seven touchdown catches. He becomes a free agent March 12.

"Austin was a warrior and an inspiration for the franchise and Colts fans around the world,” Irsay said in a released statement. “He was a great player for us and a superstar for our community, and will always be a part of the Colts family."

Collie thanked the fans in a note on Twitter on Friday night, saying it was a sad day for him and his family. “Blessed to have been a part of this (team),” he tweeted.
