North Side had an all-around solid boy's basketball win over Carroll on Friday.
Here were five keys to the Redskins' victory:
5 Keys to North Side’s victory over Carroll
By Justin Kenny of The News-Sentinel
North Side made it eight consecutive victories with a 70-55 win over Carroll on Friday. Here is how the Redskins did it:
1. Contained Chandler White
To be fair, some of this is on White himself, who just did not attack the basket with the ferocity that I have seen in past games. But North Side did a good job limiting White in transition and not letting him spot up and shoot around the floor. White finished with 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field.
2. Scoring balance
North Side is at its best when it has all five players on the floor contributing points. That was the case Friday as the Redskins finished with four players in double figures, led by Oosha Mitchell and Trevion Crews, who scored 14 apiece.
3. Free throw shooting
The Redskins have had issues in the past shooting free throws, but that simple part of the game will be important in such a hotly contested sectional. North Side did its part from the line Friday, hitting 14-of-16. Continue that in the next few weeks and good things will happen.
4. Rebounding
North Side leading scorer Dwight Richards did not have a monster game on the scoreboard with just five points, but he did grab 10 rebounds. For the game, North Side outboarded Carroll 37-17.
5. Made the extra pass
When North Side takes the time to find the open guy, it is a very good team, when it doesn’t, it isn’t. The first time the Redskins go away from that format in the playoffs, they will lose, it’s that simple.
