The IPFW men's volleyball team could not maintain the momentum after a first-game overtime victory and had its upset bid fall short against No. 6 Ohio State.

Ohio State rallied a one-game deficit and defeated IPFW in conference play 29-31, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.

The Buckeyes (9-2, 3-0 MIVA) in the victory out-hit the Mastodons .263 to. .150, including holding IPFW to less than a .100 attack percentage in the final two games.

Ohio State libero Brennan Anderson on defense led all players with a season-high 24 digs.

IPFW outside attacker Eddie Rivera in the loss finished with a match-high 17 kills. In addition, middle attacker Ramon Burgos and outside attacker Andy Sellan each added 11 kills against Ohio State.

Outside attacker Michael Hency also led Ohio State with 17 kills, while outside attacker Andrew Lutz had 16 kills.

IPFW (5-4, 2-2 MIVA) after winning the first game had a chance to take a two-game lead in the match with a 18-14 lead in the second game. However, the Buckeyes went on a 7-3 run to tie the game and then scored four of the next six points to win the game.

In addition, Ohio State with the fourth game tied at 21 closed out the game on a 4-2 run to win the match.

With this victory, Ohio State extends its winning streak against IPFW to 11 matches. The Mastodons have not defeated the Buckeyes since upsetting Ohio State in the 2007 MIVA Tournament championship match.

IPFW will continue its six-match conference road trip as it travels to play Loyola at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Chicago.
