Purdue was in trouble early and it never got better Saturday in its 83-55 loss at Indiana. The Boilers have lost five of their last six games.

Here are some of the keys to the defeat:

1) Lousy shooting: Once again Purdue enduring shooting woes. It shot just 37.5 percent from the field and 64.3 percent for the line. It also was 1-for-6 on three-pointers in the second half.

2) Foul trouble: Purdue's Rapheal Davis fouled out in just 17 minutes. Swingman D.J. Byrd finished with four fouls in 23 minutes. The Boilers committed 23 fouls.

3) Turnovers: Purdue had 17 turnovers against just seven assists. Two of their most veteran players, D.J. Byrd and Terone Johnson, combined for two assists and seven turnovers.

4) Rebounding: Purdue got out-rebounded 39-30. It gave up 12 offensive boards, which allowed the Hoosiers to get an early jump on their fast break.

5) Lack of effort: Purdue struggled to match the Hoosiers' intensity, which has been a season-long problem. Coach Matt Painter wants consistency in this area and, because of youth, rarely gets it.
