Fort Wayne residents will have a chance to voice their opinions on the proposed widening of State Boulevard at three upcoming open houses.

The open houses are scheduled for:

*5-7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Franke Pond Pavilion, Franke Park, 3411 Sherman Blvd.

*11 a.m.-1 p.m. March 1 in Meeting Room A of Allen County Public Library, 900 Library plaza.

*5-7 p.m. March 7 in the Psi Ote Barn, Bob Arnold Northside Park, East State Boulevard and Parnell Avenue.

Officials with the city's public works division will attend to gather residents' input, and preliminary designs for the project – which would widen State between Spy Run Avenue and Cass Street – will be on display.

City officials say the project would improve safety, traffic flow and flood control, while some residents argue that it would destroy the neighborhood's historic value and create an east-west route for heavy trucks.

After the open houses, a team of City Council members, city officials and neighborhood residents will review the input and make suggestions to public works staff, according to a city news release.
