A 17-year-old was arrested by Fort Wayne Police early Saturday after an armed robbery in a home on Alma Avenue in Waynedale.

Police said the victim, who reported the robbery at about 3 a.m., told them she heard a knock at the door and assumed it was her grandson, who lives next door to her. Instead, she said, it was a young man she didn't recognize who said he had a gun and forced her to the ground. She told police he took her purse and ran off.

Police made two traffic stops of men who resembled the description she gave them, but she said neither person was the robber. Meanwhile, a police dog began tracking the suspect's trail. The dog turned up the victim's purse, from which nothing had been taken.

Shortly before 5 a.m., a caller just a block north of the robbery victim's house called police, complaining about someone knocking on the door. Police responding to that call found a man who matched the description of the robber and who ran from them.

Police caught the suspect, and they report that the victim identified him as the robber.
