Police make 3rd arrest in Fort Wayne apartment robberies

Fort Wayne police have arrested a third man in connection with a string of robberies that occurred in apartment complexes during January.

Tuesday evening, Tiron B. Beard, 21, of Fort Wayne, was arrested and taken to the Allen County Jail. He faces a charge of receiving stolen property.

Police said evidence discovered during the course of the investigation linked Beard to a robbery on Jan. 10 at 8709 Gulf Drive. The depth of his involvement remains under investigation.

Also Tuesday, Corey L. Harris, 21, of Fort Wayne, was arrested by Fort Wayne Police detectives and taken to the Allen County Jail on two separate charges: receiving stolen property and obstruction of justice.

Evidence discovered during a search of Harris' home connected him to a robbery that occurred Jan. 8 at the Autumn Creek apartment complex at 2122 Ardmore Ave., police said. Their investigation revealed that Harris assisted in disposing of property taken during the robbery, police said in a news release announcing his arrest.

The first suspect arrested, Devonte M. Hamlet, 20, of Fort Wayne, faces armed robbery and criminal confinement charges after he and another man allegedly forced a woman inside her Island Club complex apartment in the 8700 block of Gulf Drive at about 10:12 p.m. Jan. 10.

According to our news partner, WANE, NewsChannel 15, probable-cause documents filed Feb. 11 say Hamlet had the following charges added: three counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, three counts of criminal confinement, one count of battery and one count of burglary resulting in bodily injury.

The new charges stem from an armed robbery that occurred about an hour after later than the Island Club Apartment armed robbery, according to WANE.

Police are investigating a string of armed robberies that were reported at local apartment complexes in January.
