Be a Frog Watcher!

Join our grassroots conservation program, FrogWatch USA, a citizen science program that allows individuals and families to learn about the wetlands in their communities and help conserve amphibians by reporting the calls of local frogs and toads.

Amphibian populations are indicators of ecosystem health, and they are in decline nationwide. By collecting meaningful data, we can help scientists better understand our hopping green friends.

Families, adults, teens and groups are welcome to attend our training class from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 2 at the zoo's Discovery Classroom, where you'll learn to identify frogs by their calls. Bring a sack lunch or snack.

There is no fee to attend. To register for the training or get more information, contact the zoo Volunteer Office at 427-6828 or You'll be a part of real effort to preserve the natural wonders in your own backyard.

Cheryl Piropato is education and communications director for the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo.
