A driver's search for just the right compact disc came to a crashing stop Monday, according to reports from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies report that Steven Hirschy, 47, who was driving south on DeKalb County Road 47, yielded the right of way to traffic on County Road 36A at about 3:30 p.m. Monday as he waited to make a left turn. While stopped there, his 2007 Chevy pickup was struck in the rear by a 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by Harlee Zeigler, 18, of Butler. The Sheriff's Department said Zeigler said “he had looked down to find a CD and did not see Mr. Hirschy stop in the road.”
His vehicle crashed into Hirschy's and shoved it into a utility pole, snapping off the pole.
Hirschy was unhurt in the wreck, but Zeigler complained of pain in his left arm and lower abdomen. Damage to Hirschy's vehicle was estimated at $5,000, and $8,000 to Zeigler's Silverado, which rendered it a total loss, according to the Sheriff's Department.
