Northrop reversed its loss to North Side during the regular season with a convincing victory over the Redskins in the IHSAA Class 4A Sectional at Carroll on Friday.
Here were five keys to the Bruins' victory:
In games between two very athletic teams that can put up points in bunches, the key is defense. Northrop won that battle, not giving the Redskins many looks from the outside and forcing North Side to shoot shots on the Bruins' terms.
Anytime Antonio Richmond and Jacoby Claypool are putting up double-digit points for the Bruins, you know things are going well. Those two played tremendous all-around basketball, with Richmond adding eight rebounds, two steals and two assists while Claypool grabbed four rebounds, had three assists and a pair of steals.
The twins came to play in the spotlight on Friday. The two combined to drop 57 points on the Redskins. They routinely beat North Side defenders off the dribble and shot well from the field. Brenton hit 4-of-5 3-pointers, including a pair during the 17-1 run that sealed the game.
There is no more undervalued player in the area in the public's eyes than Tre'Vion Crews. Both coaches knew the game turned when Crews was saddled on the bench in foul trouble. With him, North Side was getting good looks and putting up points. Without him, they were lost, with Sean McGee never looking comfortable at the point, resulting in several turnovers turning into easy hoops.
Northrop seemingly got to every loose ball, got second and third rebounds with regularity and overall just seemed to will itself to the victory. The Bruins left it all on the floor, they were not going home on Friday night with their season over.
