A man convicted in February of shooting another man to death in 2012 was sentenced Friday to 56 years in prison.

Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck sentenced AC James Jr. to 55 years for a murder conviction and 1 year to be served consecutively for a conviction on a count of criminal recklessness. A charge of aggravated battery was vacated because the murder charge superseded it.

James said he would appeal his jury conviction.

According to court documents, a lost cellphone was the trigger for a quarrel among four men that led to the shooting death of Kyree Ellis on Feb. 3, 2012 - and the criminal charges against James.

James received credit for 262 days served.
