Eight people and three pets were safe after an early-morning fire caused moderate damage to a Fort Wayne residence.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:10 a.m. to a one-story residence in the 1100 block of North Anthony Boulevard, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Responders arrived two minutes later and saw people standing on the porch and smoke inside the residence, then discovered that a fire was burning in the basement.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and have the situation under control by 12:29 a.m., the release said, with the residence sustaining moderate fire and water damage, as well as heavy smoke damage.

Three adults and five children all safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, while three dogs were rescued and delivered safely to the residents, according to the release. No injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
