I recently discovered a new and interesting shop tucked away at 613 W. Brackenridge St., just off Broadway.

Lather & Lotions sells soap-making supplies and handmade bath and body products, and teaches classes on how to make soap.

Christine Rodriguez is the owner. She started making soap when her daughter was 8 and had problems with eczema. That eventually led to an online business, www.latherandlotions.com.

In September, she opened the retail store on Brackenridge. The store, which is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, sells some of Lather & Lotions' own products as well as soaps from other soap-makers in the region.

You also can purchase soap-making supplies for either the cold-processing method of making soap or the melt-and-pour method.

The store also does workshops and classes showing how to make soap and other bath and body products, such as sugar scrubs, bath salts or bath bombs.

You can try your hand at making something 2-4 p.m. Saturdays, also known as Make and Take Saturdays. Just go into the store during that time and choose from a variety of soap molds, bath salts, fragrance oils and more. Someone on staff will show you how to choose your ingredients to make your own customized soaps and bath salts.

It's on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you are bringing a group in on a Saturday, call the store at 498-2382 in advance so they can make accommodations for your group.

New CVS near IPFW

This is surely good news for students, especially those who live in IPFW campus housing. A sign at the corner of Hobson Road and Crescent Avenue, where a child care center used to be, says a CVS drugstore is coming to that location. It will be within easy walking distance of student housing.

St. Patrick's Day specials

The Monogram Shoppe and more ..., 6410 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Covington Plaza, is celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a green special 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Everything green in the store will be 17 percent off — whether it is all-green or has a green color in a bow or stripe, it is included in the sale.
