ARE, Sweden (AP) — Alex Fiva of Switzerland won the overall World Cup ski cross title, with some help from world champion Jean Frederic Chapuis of France, who held off Germany's Armin Niederer to win Sunday's race.

Fiva won the small final to keep an insurmountable 105-point lead over Niederer in the standings with one race left.

In the women's race, World Cup leader and world champion Fanny Smith of Switzerland won all three of her starts after failing to qualify for the finals the previous day. Reigning World Cup champion Marielle Thompson of Canada was second.

Smith has 576 points at the top of the standings followed by France's Ophelle David at 487.
