HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Coach Adam Krikorian of the U.S. gold medal-winning women's water polo team has signed a new four-year commitment to lead the team through the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The Americans captured their first women's water polo gold medal last summer in London. The U.S. won bronze in 2004 and silvers in 2000 and 2008.

The former UCLA men's and women's water polo coach, Krikorian also has guided the Americans to the 2009 world championship, a 2010 World Cup title — the first for Team USA in 31 years — and a Pan American Games crown in '11.

In making the announcement Tuesday, USA Water Polo CEO Christopher Ramsey says, "The team's performance under his leadership has set a new standard for excellence during the past four years."
