A Fort Wayne man charged with murder now faces even more legal trouble after a formal charge of attempted robbery was filed against him in Allen Superior Court Wednesday.
Deadrian C. Boykins, 18, is alleged to have conspired with two others in a Dec. 4 attempt to rob a teacher at a Fort Wayne beauty school. Even though that robbery attempt failed, one of the alleged robbers was armed, and the offense is charged as a Class B felony.
Boykins already had been charged with murder. Investigators allege that he shot Elijah Freeman around 12:30 p.m. on April 3, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in the case by the Allen County Prosecutor's Office. Freeman, of Fort Wayne, was allegedly chased into the backyard of a home in the 900 block of Hugh Street before being shot. He died shortly after medics arrived, according to information released previously in the case.
Court documents in the robbery charge say that a cell phone belonging to one of the other men charged in the Dec. 4 robbery attempt showed a series of text messages between one of the would-be robbers and Boykins, culminating in a text from Boykins saying that both doors to the beauty school were open.
