OK, so maybe the state of Indiana has hit a bit of a basketball talent lull in the classes of 2015 and 2016.

Maybe.

Given the caliber of players the state has produced in recent years -- Indiana's Yogi Ferrell and Cody Zeller, Michigan State's Gary Harris, Michigan's Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson Jr. just to name a few -- a drop off was bound to happen.

And to give perspective to the perception of a talent drop, the state still produces plenty of Division I prospects, which is why coaches from around the country continue to recruit the state hard.

A bunch of impressive in-state Division I prospects, as well as from the Midwest, will be showcased in this weekend's adidas May Classic in Bloomington. It's part of the April and May travel ball tourney blitz that gets a month break -- June is reserved for high school events -- before returning to prominence in July.

College coaches can't watch this week's events -- the evaluation period is over and won't resume until July -- but they certainly will be aware of what's going on.

As for the adidas May Classic, which runs Friday through Sunday, it used to be centered at Indiana University's Assembly Hall and Cook Hall. But NCAA rules squelched that, saying it gave any college that hosted such events unfair recruiting advantages.

So now the 217 or so teams are spread out over facilities such as Bloomington North High School, Bloomington South High School, Bloomington's Twin Lakes Rec Center, Martinsville High School, and more.

The event has teams from Ohio, St. Louis, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and more.

The Fort Wayne area will again be represented by Carroll's Chandler White, a highly regarded guard from the Class of 2015 who plays for the powerhouse Indiana Elite 2015 squad.

White has generated plenty of recruiting interest from Purdue, Indiana, Boston College, and more. He has a pair of Indiana Elite 2015 teammates -- guards Hyron Edwards and Jalen Coleman -- who rate among the nation's best.

Yes, IU and Purdue are among the teams to have offered them scholarships.

Coleman was dominant in Indiana Elite's title at last weekend's Bill Hensley Memorial Run-N-Slam event at Fort Wayne's Spiece Fieldhouse. He had 20 points in Indiana Elite's championship game win over Chicago Lockdown.

There's also an unbeaten Indiana Elite 2016 team that has a strong trio in Evansville North guard C.J. Hedgepeth, Merrillville guard D.J. Wilkins and Bloomington South guard Tucker Blackwell.

Blackwell was especially impressive last weekend at Fort Wayne's Bill Hensley Memorial Run-N-Slam tourney. He totaled 35 points in his team's wins in the semifinals and finals as a follow-up to a MVP performance the previous week at a Dallas.
