Fort Wayne woman killed in crash is ID’d

A young woman who was killed late Tuesday in east Allen County when the vehicle she was riding in left the road and struck two trees has been identified.

Kayla Connie Yelton, 20, of Fort Wayne, died of blunt force trauma, according to a statement released Thursday by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Police responded to the crash in the 17000 block of Dawkins Road about 11:30 p.m., the Allen County Sheriff’s Department said.

A 21-year-old man was driving west on Dawkins Road with Yelton in the passenger seat when the vehicle went off the road and hit an embankment, police said.

The vehicle became airborne and struck two trees.

Yelton died at the scene. The man was not injured. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, police said.
