The 122nd Fighter Wing enlisted its 122nd member for 2013 on Thursday.
John Roenneburg, a graduate of New Haven High School, raised his right hand to become the newest member of the 122nd. Roenneburg was introduced to the idea of “joining up” when Col. David Augustine, 122nd commander, spoke to him at an event.
Roenneburg has been assigned as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance, A-10, technician, also known as a crew chief, until he can use the GI Bill and the National Guard Supplemental Grant to attend college, graduate and become a fighter pilot, according to unit spokesman Master Sgt. Darin L. Hubble. He will participate in the unit's student flight program.
Last year, Augustine challenged the base to produce 122 new members for the 122nd in 2013. The fighter wing is at 102.9 percent strength with just fewer than 1,000 members.
