A Fort Wayne man was badly injured Friday night when he was struck by a vehicle while repairing a tire on the shoulder of U.S. 30 in Van Wert County.
Mark A. Campbell, 30, was driving a commercial towing unit for Blue Eagle Towing and traveling west on U.S. 30 when his driverís side tire blew out, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrolís Van Wert Post.
Campbell pulled onto the shoulder of the highway and began fixing the tire. He was struck by a vehicle also traveling west on U.S. 30 about 9:40 p.m., police said.
James H. Yoder, 18, of Dalton, Ohio, was in the right lane of U.S. 30 when his vehicle passed the disabled tow truck and struck Campbell kneeling next to the damaged tire, the patrol said.
Campbell was taken to St. Ritaís Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, where he was in critical condition Saturday night. Yoder and his three passengers were not injured in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. No charges have been filed.
