Deadly shooting victim identified

2 others wounded in separate incidents

Another spate of shootings beginning at the tail-end of the week and lasting into the weekend left one man dead, one man in critical condition and another suffering from a minor injury to his hand.

Each one occurred on the south side – one in the southwest quadrant of the city; the other two in the southeast.

Katahj Amard Blackmon, 23, was gunned down late Thursday.

The Allen County Coroner released Blackmon's identity on Monday. Previously, the coroner ruled him to be the county's 33rd homicide victim of the year.

Fort Wayne police officers were called to the 8300 block of Bridgeway Boulevard in South Bridge Apartments, near Lafayette Street and south of Tillman Road.

Officers arrived just after 11:15 p.m. and found Blackmon in front of the building suffering from gunshot wounds.

Witnesses heard at least three shots and some told police they saw two men run around the side of the apartment building after the gunshots rang out.

Then, on Sunday, at 3:17 p.m., officers were called to the 1100 block of Oxford Street in reference to another shooting.

There, officers and medics found 23-year-old Lecameron T. Smith-Reed suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

A witness told detectives that Smith-Reed was standing in the street and talking with people who were inside a SUV before the shooting.

After the gunshot rang out and Smith-Reed fell to the ground, the SUV sped off.

Smith-Reed, whose name was released Monday, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police did not have a motive for the shooting or a description of the SUV.

Officers were called to the same area earlier in the weekend to another shooting, though the injury suffered by the victim was far less severe.

On Friday, officers were called to a home on Hamilton Avenue where they found blood on the porch and outside, according to police reports.

A woman at the home said a man she knew came there with a bloody hand and said he had been shot, but he left.

Police later found shell casing near a barbershop on Oxford and eventually spoke with the victim.

He said in police reports he thought three people were stealing his moped, and when he approached them one of the trio fired a gun at him.

He ended up at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand.
