Fort Wayne man convicted of murder outside Legion hall

An Allen Superior Court jury Wednesday convicted a 36-year-old Fort Wayne man of killing Jabron Q. Totton outside an American Legion Hall on June 9.

Eric J. Smith, of the 6000 block of Oakmont Road, could face more than 50 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 8 by Judge Fran Gull.

Smith, who is also known as Adam Prosser, was arrested in July and charged with shooting Totton, 37, in the Legion parking lot at Hanna and Lewis streets after 3 a.m. June 9.

Totton had earlier quarreled inside with people, but that had been broken up, according to police at the time.

Three Rivers Ambulance Authority medics took Totton to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the Allen County prosecutor’s office, Totton was found guilty of murder and the unlawful possession of a firearm.
