FORT WAYNE — Authorities have identified the man fatally shot Friday afternoon at Baldwin Creek Apartments on Fort Wayneís near-northeast side.
The death of Johnny Lee Upshaw, 21, a city resident, was ruled a homicide, according to the Allen County Coronerís Office.
It was the 34th homicide in the city and county this year. Thatís four more than 2012 and a 15-year high.
Shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, police were called to Baldwin Creek Apartments, along Hobson Road just south of East State Boulevard. Officers found Upshaw on the ground outside Building F, across the street from Heritage Park nursing home, Fort Wayne police said.
Severely wounded, Upshaw was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center. At 2:44 p.m., he was pronounced dead at the hospital, the coronerís office said.
The shooting left a second man with a minor gunshot wound to his leg. He was treated and released from the hospital that day, police said. His name has not been made public.
Witnesses reported that the shooter or shooters may have left in a black Dodge Charger. That car was later found in a nearby neighborhood, with no one inside, police said.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear. No arrests had been made as of Saturday evening, said officer Chris Felton, a police spokesman.
