FORT WAYNE — The Allen County commissioners Friday approved rezoning about 75 acres in northwest Allen County to ready the way for a residential subdivision.
About 75 acres on the east side of the 13500 to 13600 block of Auburn Road, the south side of Crawford Road and just west of Interstate 69 was rezoned from agriculture to single-family residential. The development includes 134 lots with a density of 1.9 units per acre, said Chris Beebe, an associate planner at the plan commission.
A public hearing Nov. 14 drew no comments for or against, and the plan commission had unanimously recommended approval, Beebe said.
Commissioner Nelson Peters asked why there was only one access to the housing development off Auburn Road. If there had been slightly more homes in the plans – between 150 and 200 – two entrances would have been required, Beebe said.
In other business, the commissioners accepted the ownership of about 4.5 miles of roadway from 16 different areas – mostly residential subdivisions. When the county accepts street segments, it becomes responsible for the streets’ maintenance and upkeep, county Highway Director Bill Hartman said.
The county certifies its total road mileage each year with the Indiana Department of Transportation to receive state funding for road repairs and maintenance. Allen County receives about $6,000 a mile, which goes into a fund dedicated for highway use, Hartman said.
The roads added Friday will bring in an additional $26,640 for road maintenance and repair, he said.
Various sections of roadways were accepted from the following subdivisions and sites: Bridgewater Commercial, Parkview Plaza Drive, Hawthorne Park Estates, Hidden Pointe, River Hollow Estates, Chapman’s Bridge, Harbour Villas of Chapman’s Bridge, Quail Creek, Shearwater, Watersong, Gray Oaks, Ravenswood, Calara, Deer Hollow, Cypress Pointe and Mediterra.
