We have some good news to share about a new coffee shop that will open downtown.
•Fortezza Coffee will open in January in the 800 block of South Calhoun Street between Wayne and Berry streets. Fortezza is the second coffee shop for Sean Wang, who owns Trionfale Espresso on Dupont Road. Besides coffee, the eatery will serve breakfast, brunch and bakery items. Trionfale specializes in latte art, in which beautiful patterns of steamed milk float on top of espresso. Check out the Fortezza Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FortezzaCoffee.
The Bourounis family has opened a new Cosmos Restaurant at 9807 Lima Road, serving breakfast and lunch. You may recall the Cosmos restaurant on Washington Center Road, which was purchased and turned into a Culver's some time ago. The new Lima Road location replaces the one on Washington Center Road.
The other Cosmos Restaurant is at 3232 St. Joe Center Road.
If you're looking for something special to do New Year's Eve but don't want to or can't stay out until midnight, consider a meal at the Lucky Moose.
For several years, the eatery at 622 E. Dupont Road has hosted a New Year's Eve for Wimps event. From 5 to 10 p.m. Dec. 31, you can pay $14.95 for a buffet that includes royal red shrimp, salmon, coconut-crusted tilapia, ribs, pecan chicken, salad bar, soup and dessert crepes. For an additional charge, you can add prime rib to your buffet.
And then a minute before 10 p.m., the restaurant counts down the seconds until the clock strikes 10 p.m. Everybody (of age) gets a free glass of champagne for toasting, and then they shut the place down, so you can go on to a party (or go home to bed). Phone: 490-5765.
And on a personal note, we at The News-Sentinel wish a speedy recovery for Mark Melchi, who owns the Lucky Moose. He is recovering from a heart attack he had a week ago.
