Fans in attendance at the Carroll Shootout championship game came to see James Blackmon Jr. and Marion take on Carroll last weekend got to see not only the improvement made by the five-star IU commitment, but also 6-foot-2 junior Chandler White.

The versatile White matched Blackmon Jr. shot-for-shot at times, finishing with 24 points in Carroll's victory.

The performance was just the latest in a fine season for the shooting guard, who is hitting 51.7 percent of his shots from the field for the 6-3 Chargers, including 45.8 percent from three-point range while averaging 20.0 points per game.

In helping Carroll to a 4-0 week, White was named an IBCA/Subway Player of the Week honoree.

One of the knocks on White in his first few seasons at Carroll was his inconsistency and his health. But both have been solid for the most part this year.

With that has come more college interest.

Purdue is still in consistent contact, with Associate Head Coach Jake Owens speaking to White on a regular basis via phone.

Although the Boilermakers have yet to pull the trigger on an offer, White feels it is only a matter of time.

“I still think Purdue is pretty close (to offering),” White said.

White has seen an uptick in mail and e-mail from different universities over the last few months, with interest coming from Wisconsin, Iowa, Xavier, Florida State and Virginia, among others. He hopes to take a trip to Northwestern in the near future, with the Wildcats recently coming to check him out at open gym.

Toledo has also been in town for a game to take a look.

In terms of scholarship offers, White sits at three with Boston College, Indiana State and Ball State having pulled the trigger. Boston College offered a few years ago and is still showing serious interest. The offers from the Sycamores and Cardinals came over the summer.

White had an injury scare on Friday night when he dislocated his shoulder, an issue he has been dealing with occasionally since he initially injured it as a freshman on the football field.

He addresses the issue with a shoulder brace that helps protect the shoulder, which is now easier to dislocate due to the injury history.

“Basically, the guy who took the x-ray on it says I'll have to strengthen (the shoulder),” White said. “Every time I lift weights, it dislocates, but then a day later it will be fine.”

Just a junior, White does not plan on making a commitment anytime soon, especially with interest picking up as his play goes to another level this season.

“I think I am just going to wait,” White said. “I'll see what (other offers) I can get, then go from there.”
