The outdoors makes for a very uncomfortable workspace in this weather.

A crew for the city of Fort Wayne's water department repaired a broken water main on Leesburg Road near the Citilink garage Tuesday morning while temperatures continued to be below zero.

The crew was working in -7 degree temperatures, with a steady wind out of the west, making for a very cold workday.

Frank Suarez, a City Utilities spokesman, said crews have had relatively few water-main breaks. Most of the service calls that they have been responding to over the past several days of cold temperatures have been frozen pipes in people's homes, which Suarez said are the residents' responsibility.

Fort Wayne Citilink buses were back in service Tuesday morning, although the number of people waiting for public transportation appeared to be few and far between at the transfer station at Harrison and Baker streets.

The Fort Wayne area is now going through a small warmup, compared to the record 14 degrees below zero that Monday saw. The National Weather Service is predicting that Wednesday will have a 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 1 p.m. The day will be cloudy and cold, with a high near 18. Wind chill values will be as low as -15.

After the past few days, the water crew said they are looking forward to the temperature break.
