The city has withdrawn a proposal that would have earmarked $1.25 million from its “Legacy” fund to beautify major entrances into Fort Wayne.

An ordinance was to have been introduced Tuesday to transfer the money into the city's “Front Door Fort Wayne” program, which was announced in 2012. Upon further review, however, it was decided that Front Door Fort Wayne is not intended to be a Legacy project, according to city spokesman John Perlich, who said the funding request will come back later for approval – but not as a Legacy project.

The $71 million Legacy fund was created through the sale of the city's former electric utility.
