Notre Dame depth chart at position: Senior Ben Koyack, freshman Mike Heuerman, freshman Durham Smythe.
Scouting report: The long line of talented tight ends to head to Notre Dame continues with Weishar, who is the prototypical size for a prep player at the position for the Fighting Irish. With Troy Niklas departing for the NFL, there could be a spot in the depth chart for a freshman tight end, but Heuerman and Smythe are both standouts who preserved a year of eligibility in 2013. Weishar has solid hands and is a reliable receiver at his position. He is a smart player who runs clean routes and does the little things well in the pass-catching game. He was strictly a receiver in high school with not much blocking responsibility. That will have to be developed before Weishar can be a contributor for the Fighting Irish, or else his insertion into the game will tip off the opponent to a pass play call. Look for Weishar to not get any action in 2014, but be in line to perhaps be the next big tight end pass catcher when he cracks the lineup in 2015 in some capacity.
