$2.3 million in projects to create 14 jobs at two firms

Hercules Machinery, Pyromation seek tax savings

Two companies plan to create a total of 14 jobs through expansions costing $2.3 million.

According to documents filed with the Allen County Department of Planning Services, Hercules Machinery Corp. of New Haven will make improvements and install new equipment at 5225 New Haven Ave. facility. The company currently employs about 30 people, and the average salaries of the nine new jobs to be created would include $35,000 for four welders, $75,000 for one sales position, $25,000 for one accounting job, $41,600 for two equipment operators and $35,000 for one assembly position.

The company, which was founded in 1964 and reported sales of about $14 million last year, makes construction equipment such as diesel pile-driving hammers and foundation-related machinery. Work could begin in February.

The company is seeking a “phase in” that could reduce taxes on its investment by about $71,000 over seven years. New Haven City Council will consider the request Tuesday.

Pyromation Inc., meanwhile, plans to invest $1 million at 5211 Industrial Road, creating five jobs with an annual payroll of $200,000 and average salary of about $40,000. The company reported sales of nearly $30 million last year. Remodeling of the administrative area and construction of a new lab could begin next month and conclude in September.

The company, which makes industrial temperature sensors, currently has 186 full-time employees. Fort Wayne City Council will consider its application Tuesday. If approved, the phase-in would save the company more than $233,000 in taxes over seven years.
