Gerig to be inducted into tennis Hall of Fame

Canterbury boys and girls tennis coach Jerry Gerig will be inducted into the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame during ceremonies Feb. 7 in Indianapolis.

Gerig, who has been a teaching professional since 1990, started his high school coaching career at New Haven High School in 1991. He spent seven years at North Side and the last 15 at Canterbury. He has a 586-226 overall coaching record and 455-120 record at Canterbury. He's been named the district Coach of the Year five times and was the state girls Coach of the Year in 2005.

Other Hall of Fame members from the Fort Wayne area include Brenda Hacker Freije, Jim Shull, LaMar Kilmer, Luke Grossman, Jim Clark and Lee Ann Berning.
